Cranwell X Country 2008
By New Rave Dave
On this day of arnold,or should that be our lord?-ok,ok,i'll
get on with it.
Seven bold/bald warriors and warrioresses(dont know if thats a proper
word but what the heck) and infantry travelled to Cranwell's lands and
proudly planted our flag there to do battle.
First into combat were the men.First home for mablethorpe was chairman
Wayne Kew fresh from his Turkish training camp who finished an excellent
49th in 38 mins 31 secs.Next home was the ever improving Denzil Phillips
known to his foes as the "juggernaut" who ran strongly all
the way to the line to finish a great 61st with 40.19.Hot on his heels
was Mark Lovett in 63rd with 40.33 after a neck and neck battle for
much of the race.
Well run lads, all great performances Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Exclamation
Next into battle was the ladies quartet.First home was Janine Stones
with an excellent run in 3rd place with 17 mins 28 secs seeming to glide
over the ground.Next home was Sheryl Hawse in 10th place with 20.32
underlining her great potential.3rd home for Mabo was Jackie Love
who, despite in her own words "s**@@**g bricks about running in
new spikes finished a creditable 29th in 23.50,well run 'jacks'.Completing
our quartet was Lindsey Phillips who ran a very good solid race to finish
in 42nd with 28.03.

The Lincolnshire Cross
Country Champion Ian Boneham of Notts A C took victory in the men's
race of 9200metres which attracted a field of 80 runners in his pre
race warm up for the forth comming National Cross Country Relay's.
These are very exciting times for the
modest and inspirational athlete from Grantham, who trains with the
Lincoln Wellington squad and this season has seen no let up in his performances
and training under his coach Rob Lewis. Following his impressive 6th
place at the 10000m Olympic trial race at Watford, Ian in the highly
prestigious Chichester 10k clocked 29m44s, and guided Notts A C to 2nd
place in the National Road Relay's at Sutton Park just last week, and
will be aiming to claim 1st place at the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k where
last year he claimed victory over Dan Robinson.
2nd place was Richard Brown the Louth
A C runner from Alford who following his 2nd place at Mablethorpe in
the half marathan gained a personal best for that distance at the Great
North Run. Next week Richard's main competition will come from the now
Wolds Vets runner Mick Jagger who is expected to run. 3rd place again
proving why he is in his best form for ten year's was Nick Marsh (Louth
A C) and 4th place from Lincoln Wellington was Mark Badderley.
Competing for Mablethorpe were
Wayne Kew 49th
Denzil Phillips 61st
Mark Lovett 63rd
The ladies race again was treated by
several athletes as a pre warm up to the National Cross Country Relay's
next week.
Victoryon the 4600m course went to 17 year old Blue Haywood of Lincoln
Wellington, who this season has clocked 17m15 at 5k and at the Great
Eastern Half Marathan clocked 1hr24m08s, chasing her all the way was
her fellow team mate Lucinda Pitcher. Both these athletes were part
of the Lincoln Wellington A team that claimed an impressive 19th position
at the recent National Road Relay's. Lucinda who has been in great form
this season at 3000m and on the road which has seen her clock 18m05
at 5k.3rd place went to Mablethorpe member and Lincs League Champion
Janine Stones, who in the absence of some big names in the 2nd fixture
at Louth next week and suited to the London road course will start the
race as favourite.Rochelle Harrison Of Lincoln Wellington claimed 4th
place, Rochelle ran for the Lincoln Wellington A Team in the North Of
England Relay's at Hartlepool and the B team at Sutton Park, and had
impressive races at both these fixtures. A well deserved 10th place
went to Mablethorpe runner Sheryl Hawes in her best performance in club
colours while fellow members Jackie Love (29th) and Lindsey Phillips(42nd)
had good runs.
