City Of Lincoln 10k 2008

A return to spring like conditions so different to the previous weekend snow storms greeted the record entries at this year's Lincoln 10k road race.
Matthew Watson of Bingley Harriers lead a competive mens field in a winning time of 30m.34s, this follows his recent 15th position in the Inter Couinties Cross Country at Wollaton Park. Claiming 2nd position Notts A.C and Lincolnshire Cross Country Champion Ian Boneham. (30m.49).Ian who trains with the Lincoln Wellington squad and towards the end of last year clocked a sub 30minute 10k(29.30) in winning the Leeds Abbey Dash, comming ahead of International Dan Robinson.A determined Tom Doe of Lincoln Wellington came home in 3rd position in 31m.Over the festive period Tom clocked 30.m23s in the Southwell Running Club 10k at the out and back course at Caythorpe and in doing so now holds the course record. The quality in this race race, reduced estabilished figures on the local scene such as Pumlani Bangani (Salford Harriers and ex Scunthorpe A.C 32m22s) to 7th position
First home for the local clubs was Nick Marsh of Louth A.C, (35.04 27th position) holding off the attention of his club rival Paul Jackson (35.31).
Shane Lowis of Lincoln Wellington great friend and training collegue showed his potential in clocking 41m.48s.
The quality of the female entry was no less than impressive, the race being won by Pauline Powell of Blackburn Harriers in 34m.22s.Pauline who claimed a 10kpb and club record at Lincoln in 2005 33m.51s, and also holds the club record at Half Marathan (1hr15m19s) and marathan distance (2hrs.43m.26s) Lincoln Wellingtons Blue Hayward came 2nd, while Danni Dimmock of City Of Norwich came 3rd. Lincolnshire Cross Country Champion Harriet Canter of Lincoln Wellington clocked 37m.45s, while Cleethorpes A.C Natalie Farrow clocked 38.25.
Mablethorpe runners were well represented at this event and hopefully this can continue for future events.First home for our club was Janine Stones(overall popsition 122) who for the 4th consecutive 10k event came home under 40minutes(39.57) and in doing so has estabilished her self as a serious competitor on the club scene.David Clarke in his first road race( Dave has competed at Cross Country events) clocked a pb in 43m.34.Making a big welcome return to the competitive stage was Wayne Kew 44m.03.Mark Lovett 44m.11s Denzil Phillips another pb 45m.40s Danial Lamminnam 48m.46s. Sheryl Thorpe 49m.25s Jackie Love 56m.11s Lindsey Phillips, a good run for her and surely a pb 57.52s.Both clocking 1hr 06s Zoe Bloomfield and Helen Jepson.Carol Cardwell pb 1hr03 43s and Jane Lamminnam 1hr06m.26s. Also out on the course was Robert Hawes
On a disapointing note, the long delays after the race in the castle grounds, entry to the finishing area being denied to spectators,(despite having passes) many who were there to see family and friends should give organisers some serious thought for concearn for next year's event, if the organisers wish to see this event prosper.
